Pastor’s Institute has changed my church! It has changed everything.

Now I can preach sermons better. You know some of us pastors don’t know how to prepare a sermon – but now I have learnt skills to help me with this and with preaching. I have learnt how to study the Bible for myself. A pastor needs these skills to teach his people and build his church. I am also teaching these skills to the elders and other people in my church.

You know many pastors didn’t have the chance to go to Bible School – so this can really help. Now I am understanding better the work of God

This is also a chance for pastors to support each other. You can’t build the body of Christ when you are alone, and sometimes this is a lonely thing. When we meet for Pastor’s Institute, it helps us to work together and be united.

I can say don’t stop Pastor’s Institute. This is a good thing! It is encouraging us.

Pastor’s Institute is a Walk Thru the Bible initiative to provide resources and training for pastors – as well as a platform for networking and encouragement.

Meet Mpho – our Community Coordinator

“My role is to encourage, connect and help build capacity for the people who are out there, on the ground, making Bible engagement practical.”

This includes the otLIVE instructors who help people understand and engage in the story of the Old Testament – and under-resourced pastors who, through Pastor’s Institute, are finding tools and other means to bring Bible engagement to their churches.

Mpho shares:
I have always been passionate about developing people, and this role fits right in with my previous experience of equipping others who also have a passion for God’s Word.

Both research and my practical experience show that we live in a generation where Bible engagement is at its lowest in various sectors of society. My ministry has given me an excellent opportunity to help focus our people back on the Word of God. This also fits perfectly with Walk Thru the Bible’s mission of igniting a passion for God’s Word. Being part of the Walk Thru the Bible team also helps me to fulfill my goal of passing on and entrusting the faith to the next generation.

I came to know Christ as Saviour at the age of 14. I was in a youth service on a Saturday afternoon, and our youth leader taught about the importance of developing a relationship with Christ while you are still young. For the first time that afternoon, I saw the need to accept Christ as my personal Lord and Saviour, and my life has never been the same since then.

Fun fact:
My first job was working as a voting officer in the 1994 first democratic elections. What an experience that was!

As a family, we like playing board games and cards during our spare time. We used to be super-competitive, but over the years, with more sanctification, we have become gentler when we play! We also like to hike from time to time.

Life motto:
“It’s okay to be scared, but don’t camp there, move on to faith promptly!”

We would like to introduce Kyla Brits, our Walk Thru the Bible marketing and media coordinator. We are grateful, not only for her hard work on our websites and media but also for her great attitude to life, as demonstrated in her life motto:

We asked Kyla a few questions to help you get to know her…

Tell us about your role at Walk Thru the Bible and how this fits in with your unique gifts and talents

I love the science of marketing and the art of website design – and so I am grateful that I can serve the Lord in my role as marketing and media coordinator at Walk Thru the Bible. It is a privilege to use my passion for the Lord’s work and that is a ministry unto the Lord.

Why do you have a passion for the mission of WTB – ie igniting a passion for God’s Word?

We all need more of God’s Word in our lives. Walk Thru the Bible’s specific focus on helping people to engage with, and love, God’s Word is helping me and others get closer to God, through His Word. I love that with my job, I get to help spread the Word and stories of God’s goodness. I get to help make the message known over the media!

How did you come to know Christ as Saviour?

I remember as a little girl, my mom led me through the prayer of salvation. Then when I was older, I used to watch Decade of the Daring – a teen christian programme on television on Sunday afternoons. There they advertised a camp, which I ended up attending and where I re-committed my life to Christ. Everything changed from then.

Can you provide a fun fact about yourself and your family?

My husband and two daughters are all go-getters, so we like hiking and being active. On holiday, we rarely rest, but explore and do everything that is available in the surrounding area!

We trust that God will do great things through this group as many more children and adults come to understand the big picture of God’s story and His provision of a Saviour for us, in Christ!

“Making sure that customers are happy is my priority!”

– meet our office assistant Tshepo Morapdi

I have always loved serving people. It brings me joy to help and put a smile on someone’s face. My job is to assist Walk Thru the Bible staff members and customers in various ways – including the preparation and packaging of orders. Making sure that customers are happy when receiving their parcels, is my priority.

I love that Walk Thru the Bible is one of the tools that God is using to take His Word to people. This also fits in with my personal life mission of sharing the good news with everyone – especially with people who have never heard of or experienced God’s love.

How did I come to know Christ as Saviour? I grew up in church from a young age. I took the decision to accept Christ as my personal Saviour when I was 14, when there used to be a pastor holding crusades in our village. I also joined Faith Mission, and have never looked back.

And what do I do for fun? Could it be how every Saturday morning I dress up and go for a jog and then end up strolling around Soweto.

I look forward to seeing you and serving you at the office.

First training of otLIVE instructors from Scripture Union

We are delighted to have trained the first instructors from Scripture Union who will be taking otLIVE into the schools where they work.

Through this, we pray that many young people will come to understand the big picture of God’s story – and His gift to us in Christ.

It is amazing that you can learn and understand the whole Old Testament in just a few hours! And you never get bored. I love how it shows one story connecting to another. The hand signs also make it easy to understand and remember. I highly recommend otLIVE – even to parents who want to teach the Word of God to their children. ~ Jeffery

otLIVE will be an amazing tool for us as we engage with kids. This can be easily taught to children to help them understand the Bible in a real way and see how it all fits together. The hand signs also help them to really catch on quickly. This will really have an impact in the schools that we are in and add value to what we are doing. Actually, it’s mind-shifting to be able to visualize the Old Testament coming together – and to see where all the bits slot into the big picture! ~ Warren

What I loved about otLIVE, is that I now understand the flow and fit of stories in the Bible. It’s great that by teaching otLIVE to kids, they can understand the big story of the Bible – and if you understand the big story, then you really appreciate what Christ did for us. otLIVE simplified the Old Testament for me to understand. I needed this training! This is an amazing tool to reach young people. otLIVE will change lives.

otLIVE will be so helpful in getting the kids in the schools to understand the Bible better. But actually, it’s not just for kids – otLIVE ignites passion for everyone to read the Bible. I’ll be teaching more young people (and old) to know the Bible with this tool.
