With God’s grace, a group of enthusiastic new otLIVE instructors were recently trained at the Walk Thru the Bible Victory Park offices in Johannesburg. The focus of the training was to introduce otLIVE to schools in South Africa – and so help learners develop a love and understanding of God and His grand story.

Lynnette Stander oversaw the training of the new instructors and ignited their passion for bringing the Word of God to schools. She explains what otLIVE means to her:

For me personally, otLIVE really opened up the Old Testament and gave me an understanding of the big picture of the Bible. I have also come to see that actually the Old Testament is a closed book for many; and I have seen such a high level of Bible illiteracy among our children.

otLIVE will really help children to not only know the Old Testament stories, but also the God of the Old Testament. So I am passionate about training instructors who can go out and teach otLIVE in our schools.

Some of these inspired new instructors shared their feelings about otLIVE and how they would bring this innovative Live Event to young people and schools:

Slindile Thobile Mkhize felt a calling to be a Sunday school teacher

“I’ve learned a lot in this otLIVE. Just last week Sunday, it really worried me that the children in church were so restless when our pastor was preaching. One child was even playing with the phone. So, when I got this opportunity, I was so delighted. otLIVE has shown me that I have a calling for teaching Sunday school. It has equipped me to manage these children, to use movement and the otLIVE hand signs to excite them, to play games with them and to teach them the things I have learnt from otLIVE.”

Christopher Tshuma spoke about taking otLIVE to schools and to his church in an under-resourced area on the outskirts of Johannesburg

“otLIVE has been an eye-opener for me! I learned a lot that I didn’t know before I came here. There are the hand signs and the way to meditate on the Word. I think children can better understand the Old Testament if it is told to them in a story with hand signs because you’re teaching them something that is tangible. I think it makes it much easier for them to grasp what you are telling them.

There is a need for otLIVE, especially in our society where kids don’t know the Bible. So if you catch them at a young age, it’s an advantage so that, when they grow up, they will know the Word of God, what it means and how to interpret it. I will take otLIVE to schools through Smart Choices* and to my church because I think that’s the platform that I can use to impart what I learned from this experience.
