– what a privilege and responsibility to teach them
Desmond Gates, a new otLIVE instructor relates his story:
It all started a month ago when I was trained at the Walk Thru the Bible offices in Johannesburg to teach otLIVE. This in itself was miraculous, as God, in a short time, removed the obstacles so that I could prepare and be ready to participate in the training.
During the last month since being trained, I have taught three otLIVE events at three different schools in villages in Limpopo. I love that otLIVE gives me a great way to connect with and communicate with the children – and it gets them engaged with the Bible.
At one of the schools, most of the 120 children had never before heard the Word of God.
And now they have invited me back to teach the other 200 children in the school!
There is a great need for God and for Bible teaching in our schools. Many children have no access to Bibles and are not getting any Biblical foundation at home. So to be able to teach them the big picture of God’s story is both a privilege and a responsibility.
I love the fact that at this particular school, the principal was so excited that he left his office to come and participate in otLIVE. Even the teachers, who were initially just watching from the sidelines, were soon joining in with the children.
I have experienced the power of prayer – both before and during the otLIVE events – as I see God changing the hearts of the children. I am also grateful for the help and support of the Walk Thru the Bible staff, especially Mpho and Lynnette, from whom I have learnt so much.
During the coming school term, I have many new and ongoing opportunities to teach in more schools and churches – in Rooiberg, Warmbaths and Thabazimbi. And I am excited to reach many more kids with otLIVE.
I will be obedient and faithful to walk through the doors that God is opening!
