Meet Xolani Mthanyelwa – WTB trainer and instructor

Meet Xolani Mthanyelwa – WTB trainer and instructor

What is your role at Walk Thru the Bible?

I am an otLIVE and ntLIVE instructor **, an instructor trainer (ie training others to be instructors) and an equipper (encouraging and walking alongside the Walk Thru the Bible instructors). My role makes a difference because I get to equip and encourage others with tools and skills – all with the end goal of getting more people into God’s Word.

How does this role fit with your unique gifts and talents?

Bringing the Bible to life in creative ways is one of my strengths, this goes hand in hand with how both otLIVE and ntLIVE help unpack the bigger picture of the Old and New Testament in exciting and engaging ways. I recently took a Clifton Strength test and my top five strengths are Developer, Belief, Connectedness, Relator and Harmony. I believe that these will be of great help as I grow in my role at Walk Thru. It is a joy to be involved in equipping others and seeing them grow.

Walk Thru the Bible’s vision of igniting a passion for God’s Word also fits with my personal life mission of providing an environment where people are able to meet with God through His word. It is a great privilege to part of this team.

What I love about otLIVE and ntLIVE

I love that these Live Events help people see the big picture of the Bible and how, they personally, fit into God’s story. People these days often don’t know where they belong. Often, once you know the big picture, it’s easier to discover God for yourself. As I teach otLIVE and ntLIVE to children, I see them identifying with the characters in the stories – for example Joseph and the detours that his life took and the choice that he made to forgive. This is so important for our next generation, as they think about the kind of men and women that they want to be.

How did you come to know Christ as Saviour?

I came to know Christ when I was 12 years old through my Sunday school teacher, but I went astray as a teenager. At age 18 I re-committed my life to Christ, and I am still growing as a Christian today.

Let me tell you about my family…

My wife, Charmaine, and I have been married for 19 years, by God’s grace. We have been blessed with three children, two boys and a girl. We are all each other’s ministry – meaning we get to serve each other at home, so that we can go and also serve others.

A fun fact about me

I love playing volleyball! Hoping to get an opportunity to play very soon.

26 more!

26 more!

Bringing the Bible to life in 26 more Malawian schools this new school year!

As the new school year begins in Malawi, we will have the opportunity to teach the Bible to children in 26 more schools.

These schools, in Salima and surrounding areas, bring to 83 the number of schools in Malawi where instructors trained by Walk Thru the Bible, faithfully teach the Word of God each week.

This work initially started with just four schools – and we praise God for expanding this opportunity to teach the next generation.

Wiseman Mussa, an otLIVE and ntLIVE instructor in Malawi, shares:

“I have been teaching children the big picture of God’s Word using Walk Thru the Bible’s otLIVE and ntLIVE for 12 years here in Malawi. Through these tools, I have been able to reach more children for Christ. Wherever I go, children follow me to listen to Bible stories from me – and this gives me energy! Over the years, I have taught many students. Some of them are in secondary school now, some of them are even working, and others are running their businesses. When I meet them, they still remember the lessons I taught them, and this gives me happiness and joy. I dream of seeing otLIVE and ntLIVE taught in the whole country so that many children can benefit from these lessons.”

And in the Andes Mountains of Peru …

And in the Andes Mountains of Peru …

150 children were recently taught otLIVE at a local camp. The camp was held in a town called Taucamarca, which is located one hour from Cusco, in the Andes Mountains at approximately 11,100 feet above sea level.

It’s not just here!
We are thrilled that all over the world, children are meeting the God of the Bible and learning the big picture of His Word through otLIVE!

Please take a moment to pray with us for each child to grow in their love and knowledge of God and His Word.

A solid foundation

A solid foundation

“I want to lay a solid foundation for the children and the church – and help everyone love God’s Word. When the winds of false teachings blow, I want the people to find themselves safe in the Word of God.”

These were just some of the reasons Pastor Maurice Radebe from Agape Family Church gave for hosting an otLIVE Event. He was excited about the event, which was held during the main Sunday Service, and also for the Youth and Sunday School.

He also challenged the church to gather as families and read the Word of God together with their children — a challenge that we could indeed all accept.

Is a solid foundation in the Word of God a vision you have for the people in your church?

If so, click here for more information about otLIVE and how it could help people understand the big picture of God’s story.

Further feedback from some of the participants…

Walk Thru the Bible and otLIVE is the best for simplifying and unpacking the Bible. ~ Meshack

I feel like I can now read the Bible with understanding and context. I have also learnt that sometimes stories are written for us not to repeat them! otLIVE is a fun way to learn the Word of God. ~ Tembelihle

This helped me to think through how the stories in the Old Testament relate to my life now. I have realized that my issues aren’t new and that I can learn from the mistakes of others – even Old Testament characters. ~ Pule

Launching otLIVE with Scripture Union leaders in KZN

Launching otLIVE with Scripture Union leaders in KZN

The 27th of June 2024 brought an opportunity to present otLIVE and otSTORIES to a group of more than 50 SU leaders in Phoenix, KZN. These influential men and women work in over 35 schools in Durban, Pietermaritzburg, the Midlands, and North and South Coast areas, where they minister to children on a weekly basis.

According to Garland Sam, SU Regional Director in KZN:
“We aim to bring a Christian witness into the schools – and are involved in running small groups, providing psycho-social support, literacy support and assisting with school assemblies. We want to maximise every Gospel opportunity. We are already in the 3rd term starting with otSTORIES at some of the schools and have opportunities to do the full otLIVE Event.”

otSTORIES provides a creative, easy-to-use and systematic way to teach the Old Testament stories to children. otLIVE presents the big picture of the Old Testament in an easy-to-understand and memorable way. We pray that these will ignite a passion within the children for God and His Word.

Yolande, one of the SU participants, remarked, “This will help me to do ministry with children and youth in a creative way. I am also motivated to make my own relationship with God a priority through the daily reading of His Word.”

May God be glorified as we partner together – and may we see many children reached with the Good News of Christ.
