O Holy Night

O Holy Night

The Messiah had been prophesied for centuries. But on the surface, the prophecies were patchwork, a confusing array of diverse predictions. Prophetic “calculators” —the Scripture experts— couldn’t quite add them up. The best they could do was watch and wait.

But at the appointed time, Jesus came, born of a virgin. Son of Man and Son of God. Born in Bethlehem (a lowly place), sojourning in Egypt (a sinful place), and settling in Nazareth (a despised place). A suffering Servant, a King in humble disguise. A Branch (Isaiah 11:1) and a Root (Isaiah 11:10). Worshiped by kings and despised by men. Dying, yet eternal.

Any way you look at it, our Messiah was a walking, talking bundle of paradoxes. The impossible became real, not just in prophecy, but in every aspect of Jesus’ ministry. When Jesus stepped into this fallen world, “impossible” lost all relevance.

Ministering in the midst of war.

Watch this video to see how Walk Thru the Bible is ministering to children in Ukraine – and how the Word of God is bringing hope and power for life in a challenging reality.

“This is a game-changer for relationships at work, at home and at church”.

In a scary world, God is enough.

How easily we feel shaken and overwhelmed by life’s troubles. Just as Jesus was with the disciples in the boat during the storm, He is also with us. The One who calms the wind and the waves, also calms our hearts. The One who is enough.

Knowing where you fit in God’s story:

“I love that otLIVE and ntLIVE help people see the big picture of the Bible and how they personally fit into God’s story. People these days often don’t know where they belong.” Read more from WTB trainer and Instructor, Xolani Mtanyelwa.

Meet Xolani Mthanyelwa – WTB trainer and instructor

Meet Xolani Mthanyelwa – WTB trainer and instructor

What is your role at Walk Thru the Bible?

I am an otLIVE and ntLIVE instructor **, an instructor trainer (ie training others to be instructors) and an equipper (encouraging and walking alongside the Walk Thru the Bible instructors). My role makes a difference because I get to equip and encourage others with tools and skills – all with the end goal of getting more people into God’s Word.

How does this role fit with your unique gifts and talents?

Bringing the Bible to life in creative ways is one of my strengths, this goes hand in hand with how both otLIVE and ntLIVE help unpack the bigger picture of the Old and New Testament in exciting and engaging ways. I recently took a Clifton Strength test and my top five strengths are Developer, Belief, Connectedness, Relator and Harmony. I believe that these will be of great help as I grow in my role at Walk Thru. It is a joy to be involved in equipping others and seeing them grow.

Walk Thru the Bible’s vision of igniting a passion for God’s Word also fits with my personal life mission of providing an environment where people are able to meet with God through His word. It is a great privilege to part of this team.

What I love about otLIVE and ntLIVE

I love that these Live Events help people see the big picture of the Bible and how, they personally, fit into God’s story. People these days often don’t know where they belong. Often, once you know the big picture, it’s easier to discover God for yourself. As I teach otLIVE and ntLIVE to children, I see them identifying with the characters in the stories – for example Joseph and the detours that his life took and the choice that he made to forgive. This is so important for our next generation, as they think about the kind of men and women that they want to be.

How did you come to know Christ as Saviour?

I came to know Christ when I was 12 years old through my Sunday school teacher, but I went astray as a teenager. At age 18 I re-committed my life to Christ, and I am still growing as a Christian today.

Let me tell you about my family…

My wife, Charmaine, and I have been married for 19 years, by God’s grace. We have been blessed with three children, two boys and a girl. We are all each other’s ministry – meaning we get to serve each other at home, so that we can go and also serve others.

A fun fact about me

I love playing volleyball! Hoping to get an opportunity to play very soon.

** otLIVE and ntLIVE are Live Events which use engaging memory tools to teach the major people, places and events of the Old and New Testament Testament. Click here to see more.
