1. FEEDBACK FROM THE FIRST HIGH IMPACT NETWORK CONSULTATION

The first High Impact Network consultation was held at the Beulah Park Conference centre in Isando, Gauteng.  The feedback from the conference was overwhelmingly positive. Four tracks were hosted at the event: Preaching for Lifechange (hosted by Purpose Driven Southern Africa), identifying needs in your community (hosted by turn the tide 4 children), brainstorming a strategy to reach out to your community (hosted by Walk Thru the Bible) and growing a high impact youth (hosted by High Impact Youth).

What have delegates learnt in the “identifying needs in your community” track?

  • “How to tackle situations, how to deal with different problems in our societies, communities”;
  • “As a church we have a responsibility to make a difference in our society”;
  • “I have learned how to identify the needs or problems of children and how to come up with solutions in our society”;
  • “I have learned that it is very easy to come up with solutions when we are in a group”;
  • “How to identify community’s needs through the Tree method. To go into the community, identify a need our church can meet. Don’t close the church doors during the week, serve the community, church to contribute to morality in community”’
  • “Today I have learned that I can make a difference in my community and in my church even if I’m not a pastor.”

What have delegates learnt in the “high impact youth” track?

  • “How to balance things as a youth leader and how to have faith in God.”
  • “How to live by faith, while applying the principle of expectation in youth ministry.”
  • “That as a youth leader I must trust and depend on God’s wisdom and be sober and be real.”
  • “You need to plan before you start a journey and also need to have high expectation from God about your life.”

What have delegates learnt in the “strategy to reach your community” track?

  • “I was moved by the team facilitation training. It is so simple, so simple and yet profound”
  • “Walk Thru the Bible took me back to the days where local churches were comprehensively served. I am so grateful that the local church as a whole has become some one else's ministry”
  • “Why did you finish so quickly? You are scratching where it is itching!”
  • “The TEAM training increased my broader perspective on team work, from the planning to implementation phases of projects relating to the church.”
  • “No matter how big the dream is, it can only be achieved with a team.”
  • “I’ve learned that every barrier has its own solution. You need to network with others and select the solution that will help.”
  • “Teamwork makes the load very easy to carry.”

What have delegates learnt in the “Preaching for Lifechange” track?

  • "Thank you for sharing resources with us, we need them!"
  • "What I have been doing for the previous years in the ministry was not enough. This session has changed my way of perceiving and doing God's work."
  • "I've learned that proper preaching leads men to repentance."
  • "I've learned that it is the Holy Spirit who changes people's minds, not me."
  • "I have learned about the importance of application of the Word of God in my preaching."
  • "I have learned the purpose of preaching and the importance of application."

2. ENCOURAGEMENT – COMMUNITY WORK BY HIGH IMPACT NETWORK CHURCHES

·        “Our church has an average of 30 people attending. We are running an HIV/AIDS project in our community. It is designed to help orphans. In addition, we are working with TEASA in preaching about AIDs. The project was shaped by Dr. Bruce Wilkinson's call to talk about AIDS whenever one preaches. They are currently trying to organize a new project for preaching about AIDs. We are very thankful to the High Impact Network for their resources and aid in the ministry.” Pastor Richard Soqcwayi, Christ Apostolic Ministries

·        “Our members look for people in the community that need help. When the person is discovered, people within the church take groceries to the person and pray for them.” Pastor Khaya Ngubeni, Faith Empowerment Ministries

·        “Our church runs an AIDS orphans home. There are currently 8 children in the home. Our church also runs a seniors residence for 20 people. Additionally we run an AIDS baby sanctuary with 12 children. We also facilitate a feeding scheme for 150 people as well as managing a restaurant which serves senior citizens lunches.” Pastor Roy Saunders, Lighthouse Christian Fellowship

·        “Our church is helping a children's home (called Katrina) where children are abandoned. The church is helping by distributing clothes to the children's home. We also recently started a drug addicts program called Radical Committed Christ Follower group - really exciting. We opened it up to all the churches - seems like the NG, AGS and Evangelie Kerk will be attending.” Rev. Graeme Anderson, Southdale Baptist Church

·        “We cook food for those in the community (it is a developing area). We are trying to be involved in the youth to reduce teenage pregnancy. The church has a vision to begin a daycare center. Thus, the church is trying to get toys, etc. We are beginning to develop skills of women for beadwork. We are using the materials given from High Impact Youth to reduce teen pregnancy. We also give people, who fell pregnant out of wedlock, the opportunity to get married with the support of the church.” Pastor Charles Khoza, Stir the Gift ministries

3. LAST HIGH IMPACT NETWORK GAUTENG CONSULTATION FOR 2008 – DON’T MISS IT!

The High Impact Network will host 3 annual consultation events in Gauteng. The next consultation is on

16 August. The venue is the Rhema South Church, Summit Road, close to Alberton (just off the R554/Swartkoppies Road).The goal of these consultation events are for you, as the pastor, to bring your key leadership and church members for training in each of their area of ministry.  This event is ONLY open to churches that are part of the High Impact Network.  And it is FREE!! You will receive more information in the next High Impact Network newsletter. This is the last consultation for 2008! Don’t miss out!

The following training will be offered at the Consultation:

·        “How to prepare a Sunday school lesson.” Do your Sunday school teachers know how to prepare a lesson? Is your Sunday school struggling to get children to attend because the teaching is boring? Then send your teachers to this workshop. They will learn how to prepare a fun yet lifechanging lesson. Teachers will learn how to prepare a lesson, how to select the right props to use in their lesson as well as the different methods on how to deliver lessons to make it fun and interactive. Lynnette Stander, on staff at Walk Thru the Bible, is also a lecturer at the Full Gospel Church. A Children’s Evangelist herself, she has taught Sunday school teachers all over southern Africa (including Namibia, Botswana and more) on how to present an effective and lifechanging lesson.

·        “How to develop the people you’re helping in community projects.” Do you have a heart for developing people? If you’d like to see sustainable development in your community, then this is the workshop for you! An essential success factor in sustainable development is the active participation of the people affected, the ordinary people in the community - children, youth and the elderly. How can you get the people you serve to participate in developing themselves? Also, learn a fun tool to use to engage children in their own development. The turn the tide 4 children staff is passionate about sustainable community development. Great research and curriculum development has gone into this ministry to make it one of the best in the country.

·        “How to discover your SHAPE.”  Many of us don’t know where our unique personality and passion fit into the Kingdom of God. Saddleback Church developed a great tool for you to find out what your passion is and where you should use it to serve God. You’ll learn about your Spiritual Gifts and how to use your Abilities, Personality and Experience to minister to others. This workshop is presented by Pastor Joshua Mtanyelwa, previous Purpose Driven SA Church Health Award winner. Pastor Mtanyelwa is passionate about this workshop because he has seen the difference it has made in his church, with people finding their passion and living it out!

·        “Preaching for Lifechange - Part 2: How do you C.R.A.F.T. a message?” After the first session of “Preaching for Lifechange” at the 10 May consultation, pastors were excited about the way this seminar has changed their perceptive of preaching. For many, this was the first time they heard that preaching is for transformation, not information. If you have missed the first session, you have got to be at this one! How to CRAFT a message will give you the practical skills on how to preach for lifechange. Don’t miss out this time! Being passionate about this resource, facilitator Pastor Lebogang Pule has applied this message to his own preaching and seeing the fruit from “preaching for transformation”!
