How jobs can destroy our relationships |
|
Most of us have no problem bringing God into the family room or the church elder meeting, but for some reason, we shut God out of the board room. We make two deadly assumptions when it comes to our jobs. As you read further, you’ll discover how detrimental it is to leave God out as the chief consultant of any work situation.
There are two key assumptions that will lead us to leave God out of our business plans. The first is that life is predictable. Simply put, it isn’t. Life is fraught with change at an ever increasing rate. Much of our stress is related to things changing faster and faster and becoming more and more complex.
The second assumption we make is that life is long. If it is, then we have time to try again, do things over and get back on track. But life is not long. Just as life is unpredictable, its duration is uncertain. Life is short. Our life, even if it lasts 100 years, is just a fleeting moment when compared to the history of mankind. And there is no guarantee that our life will last that long. We are vulnerable, frail and mortal.
So how should we make decisions about business?
Two thoughts must be uppermost. Firstly, although it is tough to believe, God does have our best interests at heart. Secondly, we tend to believe that all upwardly mobile opportunities are automatically God’s will. They are not. We need to make God’s will the foundation for all our decision making and not buy into the lie that upward mobility is always His will.
