No Time for Slumps

Summer has begun, but that doesn’t mean things are slowing down at Walk Thru the Bible. In fact, this is one of our busiest times of the year. We’re continuing to develop new resources and plan strategic events in the U.S. and with our international partners, including a major training next month for our Middle East / North Africa region. And, of course, our usual schedule of publishing devotional magazines and training new instructors hasn’t slowed a bit. But in addition to the usual, we’re working on a couple of special projects this month:

Three Train the Trainer events are being held this month in Atlanta, Dallas, and Los Angeles, equipping leaders in business and ministry with biblical tools to lead more effectively. These training events focus on relationships—marriage and team-building—that help participants apply biblical principles to their personal and professional lives.

We are also continuing to work on our new curriculum, Crucible: the Choices that Change Your Life Forever. We will be shooting the footage for the DVD component of this series this weekend as I teach each session to a studio audience. The DVD will be released this fall along with a workbook that can be used with small groups. We are also in the final stages of developing a book manuscript that supplements the small-group and live event elements of the training. Please pray that the video shoot would go well, that the book would come together smoothly, and that the series will have great impact in the lives of many around the world.

Some people have asked me why the series is named Crucible because that isn’t an everyday word for most of us. A crucible is a vessel in which precious metals and other substances are purified through intense heat. What better way to describe the process God uses with us to develop our hearts? The series focuses on critical moments in the life of David and the decisions he made in those moments. How he responded when the heat was turned up in his life shows us a lot about why he was called “a man after God’s own heart.” Crucible moments in our lives not only reflect what’s in our hearts but also shape them. They are key components of the process God uses to grow us into maturity.

Regardless of what your summer is looking like—whether it’s a time of slowing down to rest or as busy a season as ever—my prayer is that it will be a time of growth and of experiencing God’s presence every day. I trust that He is doing great things in your life as He is in ours, and am thankful for the opportunity we’ve been given to partner with you to ignite passion for God’s Word around the world.

Serving together with you,

Phil
